Arab Pensions Conference 2020 Draws More than 300 Delegates from 27 Countries

Manama, Bahrain:   The Arab Pensions Conference 2020 will be hosted virtually in Manama next Monday and Tuesday on 16th and 17th November 2020, with more than 300 delegates participating from 27 Arab, European, African and Asian countries.

Held under the Slogan: ‘Towards A Futureproof Regional Pension System’, the event will be inaugurated by a speech from H.E. Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour & Social Development.

“With four main webinars over two days, the conference looks into the current landscape and status quo of government pension funds in the region and globally, and how they could be reformed for future robustness,” said conference chairman, Ebrahim K Ebrahim.

He also elaborated that the forum will shed light on the economics and cost of pensions to government budgets; and whether the regional pension sector can be made more secure and futureproof via structural reforms supported by the financial industry.

“We will also explore where pension funds look for growth in the face of long-term depressed interest rates and increasing liabilities, and to what extent these key funds are embracing modern investment principles, such as long-term investment, fiduciary capitalism and social inclusion,” added Mr. Ebrahim.

Held in Bahrain annually, the Arab Pensions Conference is the definitive pension innovation and pension investment platform. It brings together hundreds of pension leaders, economists, actuaries, financial thought leaders, asset allocators, financial services executives and fintech providers from the region and around the world.

Government pension funds from the region and around the world, global financial institutions (World Bank, OECD, World Economic Forum), international asset managers, big-four audit firms, consultant actuaries, financial and pension regulators, and economic planning organisations are speaking in this event. Ebrahim said this is the only event for the pension industry in the MENA region, supported by a number of regional and international institutions, reinforcing Bahrain’s attractiveness as a hub for major economic and financial events.
